Jim Hoehn: Music
Palm Tree Kind Of Day
Alarm clock went on strike today, refused to ring its bell
Stumbled in to work at noon, you know the boss was made as hell
Never really known for tact, readin' me the riot act
Sayin' what he felt he had to say
Well I got some news for you, the message ain't gettin' through
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Weather man says snow again, maybe a foot or more
I'm up north a million miles from the nearest shore
Put a seashell to my ear, ocean sounds I long to hear
Close my eyes and slowly sail away
Walking barefoot in the sand, an ice-cold beer and a Texas band
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Headaches, heartaches, unpaid bills,
That stuff that gets you down
I'd suggest you give it a rest
Pull up a palm tree and just sit down
Radio shouts the traffic news where music oughta be
Cars ahead and cars behind as far as the eye can see
I put on my favorite song, tap the armrest sing along
Crank the wheel and make my getaway
Hit the gas and shift the gear, I can see Key West from here
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Spot a little roadside stand and stop to take a look
Jams and jellies, homegrown tomatoes, a pile of old, used books
Imagine my surprise to see, paperbacks by old John D.
Those colored tales where Travis saves the day
By the books and some rhubarb jam, keep the change and thank you ma'am
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Headaches, heartaches, unpaid bills,
Don't drag that stuff along
The best thing about sittin' under a palm
Ain't no such thing as doin' it wrong
Start to think what I don't need and stuff that I won't miss
You're about the only thing that isn't on the list
So bring yourself, just pack a smile, we'll be gone for quite a while
'til the worries in the rear view fade away
We'll take our time and see the sights, little towns, no traffic lights
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Window breeze brings in the salt, you know it can't be far
Find a quiet, shady place where we can leave the car
20 miles to the nearest town, not another soul around
No tourist traps or three-chord beach cliches
Just skies of Caribbean blue, no office walls to block the view
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
Side by side just me and you, a little beach big enough for two
Today is just a palm tree kind of day
A laid-back, lazy, carefee palm tree kind of day
